For my work experience I worked in a street / urban boutique called DONUTS in Bristol which has been opened for a year and is approaching it's 2nd birthday. At my time there I found out how to run a shop, it's cost and how to get the stock and to approach the brand of the stock. The shop was awesome with a wicked layout. You could tell that they had put in a lot of effort for the shops appearance. The guy I worked with and spoke to was Jamie, it was his first time owning a shop but he did work in the retail bussiness before in Bristol. Jamie cross promotes his shop with the music scene aimed at people who like Dub-step and Grime by holding events at The Tube which is also in Bristol. His target audience are students around the world. I asked Jamie some questions about the shop and the bussiness side of things, here are my questions and his answers:Q1. How do you get your stock?
A. On the internet, find brands that I like and if they except then we discuss how much stock I take and how much they will get from what I sell by that brand.
Q2. what brands do you have in the shop now?
Q3. How did you decide on what location you wanted your shop to be in?
A. I was living in Bristol at the time so it made sense to open it here and so do the other two people who are also involved. And also close to the uni and park street which has the a lot of independent shops which aren't to expensive.
Q4. Why the name DONUTS?
A. found the name on my mates ipod by an artist called J.Dilla.
Q5. How do you promote your store?
A. Promote the shop with posters and flyers. Also have a exhibition in the shop selling my friends art work and our clothes, we advertise it and give out free donuts and red stripe. There is a blog site called BNTL.com it's a high blog for fashion and music. We also had a mention in SUPER SUPER magazine, but usually for a quater page it can cost up to £3000! Oh and The Tube we sometimes use thoughs nights and hand out stickers and a goody bags for the first 25 people.
