T E A M _ V I V I E N N E!
I saw a picture of one of Vivienne Westwood pieces from London's Fashion Week and loved it! And I wanted to know more about it. The theme for her collection is called 'One Of Nature' based on the english country side, english nature, english colours and fabrics and traditional activities also supporting the Princess Rainforest Project, which I think is fab! She is always willing to help, GO VIV!

Here are some of my favorites from the show.

D O N U T S.
For my work experience I worked in a street / urban boutique called DONUTS in Bristol which has been opened for a year and is approaching it's 2nd birthday. At my time there I found out how to run a shop, it's cost and how to get the stock and to approach the brand of the stock. The shop was awesome with a wicked layout. You could tell that they had put in a lot of effort for the shops appearance. The guy I worked with and spoke to was Jamie, it was his first time owning a shop but he did work in the retail bussiness before in Bristol. Jamie cross promotes his shop with the music scene aimed at people who like Dub-step and Grime by holding events at The Tube which is also in Bristol. His target audience are students around the world. I asked Jamie some questions about the shop and the bussiness side of things, here are my questions and his answers:

Q1. How do you get your stock?
A. On the internet, find brands that I like and if they except then we discuss how much stock I take and how much they will get from what I sell by that brand.
Q2. what brands do you have in the shop now?
A. A.IN.T

Q3. How did you decide on what location you wanted your shop to be in?
A. I was living in Bristol at the time so it made sense to open it here and so do the other two people who are also involved. And also close to the uni and park street which has the a lot of independent shops which aren't to expensive.
Q4. Why the name DONUTS?
A. found the name on my mates ipod by an artist called J.Dilla.
Q5. How do you promote your store?
A. Promote the shop with posters and flyers. Also have a exhibition in the shop selling my friends art work and our clothes, we advertise it and give out free donuts and red stripe. There is a blog site called BNTL.com it's a high blog for fashion and music. We also had a mention in SUPER SUPER magazine, but usually for a quater page it can cost up to £3000! Oh and The Tube we sometimes use thoughs nights and hand out stickers and a goody bags for the first 25 people.

R O T T E R D A M & D O U R_F E S T I V A L
Towards the end of July I went to Rotterdam for 3nights and Belgium for a festival called Dour for 4nights.
Rotterdam was amazing for shopping and the architecture which was immense. There were really tall buildings, old fashion buildings and cube buildings. The cube buildings were peoples homes and businesses. At first it was hard to believe that peop
le lived in them as I have never seen anything like it before and it looked like people were living upside down and on the walls. They were designed by architect Piet Blom in 1984, Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. There are 38 small cubes and two so called 'super-cubes', all attached to each other. Because people are curios about these cube houses a man has used his home as a museum for people to explore, the layout of the cube houses are, ground floor entrance, first floor with living room and open kitchen, second floor with two bedrooms and bathroom and the top floor which was a conservatory / chill out room. If there was one for sale and I had the money I would so grab one with out a hesitation! . . . Moving on to the shopping I was spoilt for choice. They had the big brands which you get everywhere for example H&M to these beautiful sophisticated boutiques which were way out of my price range. But the thing I loved the most about these boutiques were the layouts. Some just had rails in the middle of the shop with shoes on the outskirts or had cabinets displaying hats and shoes or they were using mannequins which were hanging from the ceiling , and some shops had exhibition of local dutch artists work.
I went round and took some photos so here they are:

In July I went to a BANKSY exhibition in Bristol at the Bristol museum. At first I loved it, you were greeted by these mimics of greek sculptures and this really cool but grubby ice cream van and a police officer riding a fairground horse but I felt that he could have done something new. His political ideas are really good and influence a lot of people to go out there and express their feelings towards the world, but now there getting more easier to reconise and to understand. Before I liked it how you would have to study a drawing to know what the meaning ment but now it's not the same, (DO SOMETHING NEW!) But I can't complain as he is a brilliant artist with good ideas but he could explore a new topic! He did have these amazing moving sculptures. Animals and CCTV cameras in cages doing bizzare things for example a rabbit putting on make up which ment cruelty towards animal testings . . . OBVIOUS! and these wiggling sausages and chicken nuggets dipping themselves in ketchup. It was worth seeing though for free and I would suggest to people to go and check it out but if it's to late here is a link so you get an idea what it was all about and what was in it.
